Cutting corners
[The EndlessTrail » Wondering, as I walk on the endless trail of life, who will I bump into today] So, after work, I headed back to my old school - Singapore Polytechnic - for some climbing. It’s been a long time since I last climbed there, with the very last time being many months back.

Another Nike Run Success
[\jeff{krimmel}] Another installment of the Nike run series took place this evening, and I again was able to successfully complete the three mile run in the eleven to eleven and a half minute per mile pace group. In fact, I was feeling good enough near the end of the run that I beat the rest of the group back to the starting area (where the three and five mile routes finish).

[randomduck] We also saw some box turtles sunning and swimming in the canal (though the swimmers weren’t into the whole picture-taking thing). We saw Canada geese with their rapidly-maturing goslings, some ducks (a whistling variety), and - much to our surprise - a white-tailed deer fawn.

Abalone diving
[Automatt] Large mollusks you can eat, originally uploaded by automatt. Along the California coast, it's possible to dive for these large bivalves. A little slicing and pounding and they're ready to cook! Due to strict, enforced limits on the harvest, this practice is both sustainable and incredibly fun!

Run for the Mountains
[:::[ patchwork progression ]:::] Arriving home late last night, I could not shake an unusual sense that my apartment was eerily empty and yet in being so unmasking an ominous, unseen presence. I paced around in the dark until flashing lights from the street below intruded through the blinds.

Camping in Tellico
[Blogging Riverbend Festival] I'm going to talk about my Memorial Day weekend because it was so great. First off it was Roxie's idea to go camping and I applaud her for such a wonderful idea. I decided that Merlaak should be the one to decide where we were going to stay because I had a rather busy week and he really wanted to try out his all-in-one super cooker. The super cooker is electric so we needed reservations at a campground with electricity (imagine that).

Caringorms Planning Objection
[foolfillment] These pylons are planned start on the coast line by the western isles, head west then south through some of the most beautiful places in Scotland, before diving into the national grid around Stirling. They are three or four times the size of existing pylons (where there are existing pylons, that is) and are needed to bring in wind farm power from the western isles. he phrase I’ve heard that is most evocative (I think from Cameron McNeish) is ‘akin to taking a stanley knife to a Rembrandt’.

FirstSignsOfSummerBeingCloseBy
[Shhh] My yearly notible signs that summer is close by: dandilions are in abundance, wasps seem to find a way to the inside of my house windows, the warmer days are so nice that I open the windows and usually miss closing one at bed time then wake up around 4 am freezin my ass off, (...) But, then again, summer is great and sure beats the heck outta shoveling a dump load of snow!

Fighting the good fight
[Metroblogging Seattle] For years I would tell people that I had a brown thumb, but in fact I actually have a green thumb and a forest of blackberry vines in my backyard in support of this statement. Blackberry is always so contradictory, with half of us trying to pound it out of existence and the other half out on the roadside, not 5 feet from cars driving by (can I get a chorus of "ewwww" please?) harvesting its sweet berry goodness. On Thursday I accepted the City of Bellevue's invitation to attend their FREE weed workshop and for over an hour, Laurie and Sasha held a lively lecture about what weeds would be around in my neck of the woods, and how best to get rid of them.

Gunung Stong Revisited.
[The EndlessTrail » Wondering, as I walk on the endless trail of life, who will I bump into today] We had a simple lunch at the Stong Waterfall Resort before beginning our two and a half hour trek up 450m to the campsite. [Ramblings and Travels] It then cascaded down a 30 to 45 degree hillside for a half mile, until it hit Tapeats Creek. I wish my leg was feeling up to it, I would of enjoyed the hike down to Tapeats and see it all there, but the trail was too steep and rough, and I didn’t want to risk aggrivating my leg any more than I already had.

The Nike Run
[\jeff{krimmel}] Ariele rounded up quite a crew (of which I was a member) to go to this evening’s Nike run, and I have declared it an unequivocal success. Ariele, Bert, and Mike ran in the nine to nine and a half minute per mile pace group for a total of three miles, while Greg, Heather, and I joined the walking group for the same three mile route. Waiting at the end was free food and free beer (two free beers for me, since Ariele isn’t such a fan).
