Caringorms Planning Objection

[foolfillment] These pylons are planned start on the coast line by the western isles, head west then south through some of the most beautiful places in Scotland, before diving into the national grid around Stirling. They are three or four times the size of existing pylons (where there are existing pylons, that is) and are needed to bring in wind farm power from the western isles. he phrase I’ve heard that is most evocative (I think from Cameron McNeish) is ‘akin to taking a stanley knife to a Rembrandt’.

Some slightly related from Technorati and Google.

Sundayherald.com[Sundayherald.com] Giant pylons plan sparks official protest - [Sunday Herald]: Scottish Natural Heritage said that a sub-sea cable south from Lewis should be reconsidered if there was no acceptable route across the Highlands. It also suggested burying cables underground for part of the way to reduce some of the potential environmental impacts.

http://chrenkoff.blogspot.com [Chrenkoff.blogspot.com] Chrenkoff: "Iran has extended a 60-kilometer long power line from its major Serbeel power station to the Iraqi power generating plant at Himrin in the north. It took the Iranians four months to construct the pylons, towers and lines necessary for the project. The linkup with Iranian national grid is good news for the border province of Diyala which has been suffering from chronic power outages.

Climateark.orghttp://www.climateark.org [Climateark.org] 26/2/2005 -- The menaced landscape: Imagine that, to this end, the government has spent £1bn subsidising large companies to evacuate the vaults and hanging spaces of the UK's national galleries. Imagine that canvases by Constable, Ruskin, Turner (these burn especially well) and Stanley Spencer, and the sculptures of Hepworth and Goldsworthy are being lifted from walls and plinths, and tumbled into furnaces.

[Update.sundayherald.com] Giant pylons plan sparks official protest - [Sunday Herald]: Alarmed about the damage a long line of 50-metre pylons would inflict on the landscape, the influential conservation organisation has launched an unusually strong attack. It has condemned the way the plans are being promoted by a subsidiary of the power company, Scottish and Southern Energy, as “wholly unsatisfactory”

Ronsilliman.blogspot.comhttp://ronsilliman.blogspot.com [Ronsilliman.blogspot.com] Silliman's Blog: 12/01/2003 - 12/31/2003: Friday almost always show asubstantial decline, especially if Wednesday has been “strong.” Readership onthe weekends is about 60 percent of Monday. So when I tell people that myreadership seems to have stabilized at around 280 visitors per day, that’s anaverage that typically includes a Monday somewhere around or above 350 andweekend visitations that are lucky to reach 400 for the two days combined.Further, readers have been remarkably consistent since the blog began invisiting 1.5 pages per trip – a number I usually interpret to mean that asubstantial portion of the readers here don’t really visit once every two weeks– the number of days you’ll find posted on this top page.
