News Roundup

[The Disney Blog] There is also news on the Pixar and Disney relationship. Incumbent CEO Iger reports they are back at the table again. This relationship has proven to be profitable for both sides and I don't think one should under estimate the branding power of having all your characters associated with one themepark giant.

Some slightly related from Technorati and Google.

Mac HTPC - The Mac Mini HTPC[Mac HTPC - The Mac Mini HTPC] Cringely is off his rocker on the Apple Intel merger: In his latest installment of I, Cringely, Bob reckons all this Intel hub-bub basically boils down to Intel buying Apple, with the goal of pummeling Microsoft into submission and for Job’s to exit Apple, devoting his full attentions to Pixar. Phew that was the longest line of fantasy I’ve typed since I tried to write a screenplay.

[Cd Dvd Duplication Guide] Blu-ray and HD DVD: But if seven of the leading movie studios have their way, this won't last long. On April 25, in US District Court for the Northern District of California, Judge Susan Illston will hear a motion from the seven studios claiming that 321 Studios two products (DVD Copy Plus and DVD X Copy) are illegal under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) and should be removed from the market.

http://pixaranimation.blogspot.com [Pixaranimation.blogspot.com] Luxo: Disney Finds New CEO :: A blog dedicated to Pixar Animation ...: If Iger and Pixar's Steve Jobs can reach an agreement, it will be a continuation of one of the most successful movie-making marriages ever. Pixar Animation Studios has provided much of Disney's animated film profits since their pairing, and is now recognized as one the highest quality brands in the entertainment industry, while Disney's reputation has suffered due to the relatively moderate performance of their recent animated films. However, Disney still has incredible worldwide distribution and marketing agreements in place and a brand that has proved to be timeless.

[Blogdisney.com] BlogDisney: The complaint states,"In light of Disney's and Gold's successful 'Just Say No' campaign atthe 2004 Annual Meeting and  threat to run an alternate slate ofdirectors at the 2005 Annual Meeting, Defendants delayed theirselection of [Robert] Iger until shortly after the 2005 Annual Meeting, used Company resources to promote Iger's candidacy and did not in goodfaith seriously consider any other candidate."  As a result of  Messrs.Disney's and Gold's efforts,  a total of 45.37% of the Company'sstockholders withheld their votes for Mr. Eisner, 25.69% withheld theirvotes for Senator Mitchell, and 24.37% withheld their votes for Ms.Estrin in an unprecedented  "No Confidence Vote" at the Company's 2004Annual Meeting.

[Thedisneyblog.typepad.com] The Disney Blog: Disney and Pixar Sitting in a Tree: I don't know how we as a company can dish out bonuses when our stock is worth less today than it was 14 years ago. Along that line, my proposal is to overhaul Walt Disney with a limitation of annual salary compensation to be limited at $500,000.00 for the CEO. I have no problem awarding bonuses as an incentive for the leadership of the company to meet goals that strengthen our company and helps our stakeholders.
